Renowned as one of Europe’s most enchanting cities, Barcelona serves as the proud capital of Catalonia. Its cosmopolitan and international vibe draws countless visitors from around the globe. Barcelona stands out as a prominent hub for culture, sports, economics, tourism, arts, science, fashion, and commerce. With a population estimated at 5,711,917, it’s easy to see why. The majority of non-Spanish residents are from European Union countries, with Italy and France being the most prevalent. In addition to European migrants, Barcelona hosts a sizable community from Pakistan and China, each group numbering around 20,000. There is also a significant South American population, primarily from Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia. Most residents are bilingual, speaking both Catalan and Spanish—both of which are official languages. Street names and most road signs are in Catalan, so learning the local language is encouraged as it shows respect and appreciation for the community you are joining.

Unlike Madrid, Barcelona boasts some of Europe’s most stunning beaches along its coastline. The further you venture, the more beautiful it becomes. Nestled beneath the hills and mountains of Montjuïc, Tibidabo, and Montserrat, the city overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Barcelona is truly captivating, and you may find yourself wandering aimlessly, mesmerized by its eye-catching architecture, including landmarks such as La Rambla, Els Encants, Casa Batlló, Palau de la Música Catalana, the Picasso Museum, Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, Parc de la Ciutadella, Park Güell, and of course, La Sagrada Família.

Beyond its breathtaking views and architecture, Barcelona’s nightlife and culinary scene are among the best in Europe. A variety of musical genres cater to all tastes.

Of course, you cannot mention Barcelona without mentioning the Barça football team, which is considered one of the world’s finest; attending a match here is an unforgettable experience. We at NIE.CAT highly recommend it!

There’s also an endless list of activities for kids, including Gaudí Experiencia 4D, Montjuïc Cable Cars, Barcelona Bosc Urbà, and Museu Blau (Natural History Museum). You should hear no complaints of boredom! NIECAT originated here in Barcelona, so as you can imagine, this place holds a special place in our hearts, and we hope if you decide to relocate it will do the same for you.
