What is it?

Understanding the Student Visa

A Student Visa is required for individuals who wish to study in Spain for a period exceeding 90 days. It permits students to live and pursue accredited full-time educational programs, such as university degrees, language courses, or vocational training. Additionally, it may allow limited work rights during the academic year for eligible students.

How Long Does the Visa Last?

  • Initial Visa: Granted for the duration of your course or up to one year.
  • Renewal: Can be renewed if the course extends beyond the initial period, requiring updated proof of enrollment, financial means, and health insurance.
  • Residence Card: Once approved, you must apply for a Student Residence Card (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero – TIE) at the local police station and collect it within 30 days after the appointment.

Work Rights and Processing Time

  • Work Rights: Holders of a Student Visa for higher studies can work part-time (up to 30 hours per week) during the academic year. Note that language school students are not permitted to work.
