The TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) is a foreigner’s identity card in Spain, which includes your NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero), your photograph, and your residency status.

Non-EU nationals who intend to stay in Spain for more than six months are required to obtain a TIE.

You should apply for a TIE after your arrival in Spain, provided you have a visa or residence permit that allows you to stay for more than six months and empadronamiento

You can apply for a TIE at the Immigration Office (Oficina de Extranjería) or a National Police Station (Comisaría de Policía) in Spain getting the cita previa – an appointment

  • A completed EX-17 application form.
  • Passport (original and copy).
  • Your visa copy.
  • Copy of the entrance stamp in your passport
  • Proof of your address in Spain (empadronamiento).
  • Two passport-sized photographs.
  • Proof of payment of the TIE application fee (form 790) which is €16.08

The EX-17 form is the official application form for the TIE. It must be completed and submitted with the required documents.
